Barcelona vs Celtic, September 13th

On September 13th it is time for the first Champions League match of the season for FC Barcelona. They will play it on Camp Nou against the Scottish team Celtic FC, which is led by Brendan Rodgers. For several years the Scottish club did not manage to get to the Champions League, but last season they sacked their Norwegian manager Ronny Deila, and now they are back in the Champions League again. But, will they have a chance against Barcelona on Camp Nou? Not at all!

You might say that Leigh Griffiths is a fantastic player and that he is capable of scoring a lot of goals for Celtic. Yes, that is true. But, he does not have a habit of scoring goals in the most important matches and against other great teams. Last year he failed to score in the Scottish cup semi-final in the local derby against Rangers, and we do not believe he will shine like the star on Camp Nou either. Another problem is that Leigh Griffiths is injured at the moment, and because of that he will not be able to play for Scotland in their World Cup qualification opening match against Malta, and it might be that he will not be ready for the FC Barcelona match either.

Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid, September 21st

The match against Celtic might be interesting, but the match against Atletico Madrid in La Liga is even more interesting. This is where Barcelona will do their uttermost to revenge their loss against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last year, and where they will have to win to show that they are the best team in Spain. It will not be easy for Atletico Madrid to score any goals in this match, but they have a good grip on FC Barcelona still. Will they manage to cause trouble for FC Barcelona? We for sure hope they won’t, but it will be so interesting that you will for sure want to be there at the stadium to cheer for FC Barcelona in this match. These are the top two matches to be played by FC Barcelona in September in 2016. There will of course be played some more matches, but they are not as interesting as the matches against Celtic and Atletico Madrid.

Getting ready for the Summer Olympics

The Summer Olympics will start in a few days and the people of Spain are having great expectations for what the Spanish contestants will perform.

It will be easy for the people of Spain to watch the Summer Olympics. It will be shown on big screens in restaurants and bars all around the nation, and in addition you can watch the live broadcasts on all TVs in the nation. The TV channel broadcasting the event is RTVE, one of the best and leading TV channels in the nation of Spain.

During the Summer Olympics in London in 2012 Spain only got three gold medals. They did however get ten silver medals and four bronze medals. During the Rio Olympics they will for sure be eager to change lots of those silver medals with gold medals, and they will then soon turn into one of the top nations competing in the Rio Olympics.

Spain has strong teams, especially in sailing, and during the Olympics in London they got two gold medals in sailing (Women’s Sailboard, Elliott 6m) and in Taekwondo. One of the most popular sports during the Olympics in Spain is handball, and the people of Spain have great expectations to the female and male handball team. In addition the water polo team for the women can surprise.

Barcelona – Atletico Madrid

On January 30th it is time for one of the hottest matches throughout the entire Liga BBVA season and that is the match on Camp Nou between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. At the moment it is even hotter than the matches between Barcelona and Real Madrid, after all both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are at the top of the La Liga table with 48 points, four points ahead of Real Madrid.

If you want to be there at Camp Nou to actually watch the match then you can read more about FC Barcelona and how to get tickets here. If you do not have money enough to buy yourself a ticket for the match or maybe you are far away from Barcelona, then you can still watch it online and here you can find two different pages describing how you can watch the match online: version 1 – version 2.

Do not be surprised if you will see thousands of football fans walking the streets of Barcelona on Saturday, and especially some hours before 16.00 and after 18.00, because that is when the fans make their way to Nou Camp and leave the stadium after the match.

If you have never been to Nou Camp and never seen Barcelona play a match live then that is something you should for sure check out and try, because it is an experience you will remember for a long time, almost better than Christmas eve!

Who will broadcast Euro 2016 in Spain?

That is a brilliant question, but it seems at the moment as if we do not actually have an answer to your question! Because, based on the list on Wikipedia and the list in the IP Address Guide presenting the different broadcasters of the Euro 2016 to be played in France next year in June and July there are no broadcasters listed for Spain.

That does not mean that Euro 2016 will not be broadcasted in Spain, but it means that it might not be 100% sure yet which TV channel will actually broadcast the tournament. However, as you look through the list of Euro 2016 broadcasters you can notice that it looks very similar to the channels that broadcasted from the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, and if that is true, then the Euro 2016 will be broadcasted in general by Gol 1 ( a Pay TV channel), but some matches, at least those in which Spain play and some more will be broadcasted on free Spanish channels such as Telecinco and Cuatro.

There is therefore no need to worry, and if you want to watch the Euro 2016 with English speaking commentators instead, then you can of course watch all the action live on BBC and ITV in the United Kingdom, just like during the World Cup in Brazil in 2014. With yesterdays matches the teams qualified for the Euro 2016 is also ready, so now we just have to wait for the groups to be ready in December and then we can start preparing for the highlight of the summer in 2016 which will be the European Championship in France.

Netflix has arrived!

We have had quite a lot of people coming to our Barcelona Guide asking the question whether it is possible to watch Netflix in Spain or not. For a long time the answer has been kind of negative, but that has changed today!

Because, as of today Netflix has arrived to Spain and to Barcelona, meaning that you can now sign up and create a Netflix account and start watching all the beloved Netflix content, also in Spain. Because, for a long time it has been impossible to watch Netflix in Spain, or it could only be done in the same way as you now for example watch HBO Now in Spain. So, if you follow the instructions at netflix.fromabroad.org you could watch Netflix in Spain until now, but luckily you are no longer in need of such instructions, because you can now simply go ahead and start watching without using any sorts of VPNs or Smart DNS services.

It is not such a big thing for Netflix to launch in Spain, because since Netflix is available in for example Mexico all content is already made available in Spanish, meaning that both dubbing and subtitles are ready, so now you can watch House of Cards and Orange Is The New Black on Netflix in Spain, with spanish subtitles and with spanish voices as well, if you would like that. Now you might miss those English subtitles if you are used to watching Netflix content with English subtitles, so to get those back you will need to jump to another Netflix region, but since you are in Spain you probably understand Spanish and thus you will have no problem watching Netflix content without English subtitles.
