Many people hear the word Oktoberfest and they immediately think about the Southern parts of Germany. That is a good association, but hopefully, this article will inspire you to discover Oktoberfest elsewhere than in Germany, in Spain, in Barcelona!

Oktoberfest is an annual event in the heart of Barcelona, at the popular University Square (Plaza Universo), next to Plaza Espana. At the festival area you will find a gigantic tent with a size of more than 6000m2. Inside you can feel the smell of beer, and you can, of course, taste lots of fantastic beer brands such as Heineken, Paulaner, Cruzcampo, and many others.

It is free to enter the tent at some times of the day, but in the evenings, you must normally pay an entrance fee of 5 euros. It isn’t required to have a table reservation, but if you want to be sure that you get a place to sit inside the festival tent, it is very wise to book a table beforehand.

Not only can you drink beer at the Oktoberfest in Barcelona. You can also taste traditional beer festival food such as sausages, pretzels, and other delicious snacks.

There are lots of Bavarian bands coming to the festival, meaning that you will get the same atmosphere and music as at the original Oktoberfest in Germany. Maybe you should bring some lederhosen to the event to fit in?

How to get to Oktoberfest?

It is extremely easy. The easiest solution is to travel with the metro to Plaza Espana and then walk a few minutes from there. Many buses stop at Plaza Espana so if you decide to travel by bus, you can easily reach the square using bus lines such as D20, D40, H12, H16, V7, 13, 23, 46, 65, 52, 79, 91, 109, 150, and 165.
